The Sverdlovsk region is situated at the junction of the borders of Europe and Asia, on the eastern slopes of the Ural Mountains.

The region is located in the northeast of the Urals Federal District and is the largest in the Urals.

The administrative center of the Sverdlovsk region is Ekaterinburg.
